Gérard married Elisabeth in 1970, and they were separated in 1992. They appeared in Jean de Florette (1986) and Le Tartuffe (1984) together.
His son by Elisabeth, Guillaume Depardieu (b 1971), had a troubled youth much like Gerard himself (see Arena article), and like his father, he's launched a successful acting career. As the Depardieu fils (and quite handsome), he's something of a young heartthrob in Europe. He played the young Gérard in two films: Tout Les Matins du Monde (All the Mornings of the World) and The Count of Monte Cristo. News of his recent wedding is in our Press Pages.
Gerard also has a daughter by Elisabeth, Julie Depardieu (b 1973), who has gone into the family business. She appeared with her father in Colonel Chabert, The Machine and The Count of Monte Cristo (playing Valentine de Villefort).
In 1992, Gerard had a relationship with Sengalese model and actress Karine Sylla, which produced a daughter, Roxane. Karine married actor Vincent Perez in 1998 (the Vincent Perez website has the complete story). Ironically, Perez played Christian to Depardieu's Cyrano in the 1990 film, Cyrano de Bergerac. In the film, they both court the same woman, Roxane.
Depardieu has a new love in his own life, ex-Chanel model and actress Carole Bouquet, who starred with him in 1999's The Bridge.
The most recent addition to the Depardieu clan is a granddaughter, Louise Depardieu, born to Guillaume and his wife Elise on December 19, 2000.
