Gérard's friends and fans were greatly alarmed in June of 2000 when news broke that he had been admitted to the hospital for a heart operation. Although the official word was that the procedure was "standard", and that he had come through the operation fine, in fact it was a very serious thing -- a quadruple bypass. But with his zest for life and his strong constitution, Depardieu recovered quickly. Within weeks he was back on the set of the Francis Weber film, Le Plaçard. Recent pictures show him looking healthy and full of life.
Today, Gérard is busier than ever making, producing and pre-producing films with his production company DD Productions. According to the paparazzi-fed European tabloids, he does still find plenty of time to take vacations with his family.
