Plot Summary:
A sixteenth-century French peasant, Martin Guerre, returns home to his village after a seven years absence. He left a young man and returns a mature one -- but is it really Martin Guerre? No one suspects otherwise, not even his wife, until a vagrant claims he is someone else and -- worse -- Martin demands payment from his uncle. The law gets involved trying to resolve the question of who is Martin Guerre? Based on a historical event.
