8/02 This Spring and Summer, several of Gerard's projects are debuting internationally: CQ, ASTERIX & OBELIX: MISSION CLEOPATRA, I AM DINA, and AIME TON PERE, and in September, BETWEEN STRANGERS and BLANCHE. Filming has been completed on CRIME SPREE, VOLPONE, and RUY BLAS. Current and upcoming projects include BON VOYAGE, Francis Veber's LES TOURTUREAUX, PACTE DU SILENCE, and the teleseries based on the legend of LA CORRIVEAU.
2/02 Between January and March, Gérard is in front of the cameras for Frédéric Aubertin's television adaptation of Ben Johnson's VOLPONE, the story of a wealthy Venitian who feigns illness to entrap greedy neighbors. (Source: tournages-lesite.com)
We're going to, uh, guess that since the setting of the piece is Renaissance Venice, at least SOME of the filming will take place there...
2/02: Napoleon, the made for TV mini-series, just finished filming, as has Blanche, and Aime Ton Pere, which co-stars Père et Fils Depardieu.
10/01: Gérard has been in France, devoting time to his vineyard and other wine-related festivities. He is also currently working on two films, Aime Ton Père and Blanche.
9/19/01: Vidocq, a crime thriller fantasy set in 1830's Paris by director Pitof, with Gérard in the title role, opened in France. A ground-breaking film, it is the first full-length movie with an all-digital format.
9/01: Gérard spent part of late August and early Sept at the Montreal Film Festival.
9/8/01: Gérard was in Greece doing two live performances of Oedipus at the Epidarus Festival Sept 7th & 8th.
8/1/01: Gérard is in Hungary filming the mini-series Napoléon. He is also co-producing.
8/1/01: In June Gérard was in Canada with Sophia Loren filming Between Strangers.
7/25/01: GD narrated Camille Saint-Saëns' musical fantasy "Carnival of the Animals" as part of the Radio France Festival. The program was broadcast live from the Opera Berlioz on radio and the Internet.
3/30/01: Gérard was in Norway this Spring filming I Am Dina, a Scandinavian film in which GD plays Jacob, husband of Dina.
3/30/01: Gérard was in Cambodia for 10 days in Feb or Mar of 2001 filming Beneath the Banyan Tree with Matt Dillon.
2/23/01: In the late Fall/Win 2000, Gérard filmed CQ, directed by Roman Coppola in France.
12/8/00: This past fall, Gérard filmed Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cleopatra, a sequel to 1999's European hit Astérix & Obélix vs César. The filming took place in Malta.
WHAT'S NEXT?
2/02: Upcoming projects include VOLPONE, TAIS-TOI, CRIME SPREE, THE GARBO DECEPTION, IMPERIUM, and BON VOYAGE (see Winter 2002 update).
6/24/01: More new projects have been announced. Depardieu has a role in the Jean Rochefort film Blanche (filming date unknown) and is in talks for two fairy-tale like films, King of Storks and Puss in Boots (see our June '01 news page).
4/29/01: Depardieu has signed on to do a bio pic on DeGaulle in which he will play the French leader. No word on start date for filming.
9/16/00: There are several publicized upcoming projects. He's slated for a remake of Hunchback of Notre Dame with himself in the title role and for a fully French version of The Three Musketeers. Both of these projects involve the same screenplay writer (Dedier Decoin) and general production team as Count of Monte Cristo.

12/01/01 In addition to his film projects, Gérard is busy making and promoting wine. The September/October issue of GAULT MILLAU Magazine (France) included a cover story spread on Depardieu's winery, Chateau Tigné.
