8/25/00 DEPARDIEU REIGNING IT IN Thanks to Vicki on our message board for this bit from Paris Match's August 24 issue (I'll work on getting the whole thing for the press pages). According to Frances Weber, who directed GD in "Le Placard" in August, Depardieu has quit smoking and drinking and has already lost 20 kilograms (that's 40 pounds to you and me)! His doctors are reportedly "stupefied" by his fast recovery. So here's my take: drop the smokes for good, moderate the eating and wine, take up exercise--but don't stop giving us as many films a year as you can bear! (OK, so that's utterly selfish, I'll admit that. :-)) Seriously, it sounds like we can all breathe a big sigh of relief and give three cheers for our beloved Frenchman's elasticity. I expect we'll see many more articles in the next 1-3 months on GD's new lifestyle, including interviews and scar pictures, knowing the French press. Stay tuned to see it all here . . .
8/10/00 DEPARDIEU GOES BACK TO WORK Thanks to Stacy and Dan for sending me this news. According to recent news reports, Gerard is official back on the set, working on the film "Le placard" by Francis Veber. What conclusions are we to draw from this? A) the guy's a workaholic, and b) there are no complications from the surgery. Let's hope he's feeling terrific and has a good shoot. He starts the Asterix sequel in September.
